This week marks the 26th annual Burning Man Festival in Black Rock Desert, Nevada.  If you aren’t familiar with Burning Man, it is a week long event centered on art, music and radical self-expression.  In fact Rono and Sierra are there RIGHT NOW off the grid, having a blast while their team runs the show.

So, we we felt there was no better time to discuss how radical self-expression and boldness can help you in both your personal and professional life.

It’s hard to pinpoint what exactly radical self-expression is because it is different from person to person.  This expression arises from the unique gifts that lie within every one of us and makes us individuals.  Only you can determine your form of radical self-expression.  Whatever you feel is right, express it loud and proud.  (click to tweet)

It may be something simple like changing your logo to better express the person you are or something big like dying your hair purple.  However you feel you can best portray your innermost person do it.  This may make some people feel scared or uneasy but take the risk and be bold. There is no better feeling then being 100% true to you and expressing that for everyone to see. (click to tweet)

There are two different types of people in this world:

A) those who are bold
B) those who are timid.

Yet what most people don’t realize is both boldness and timidity are acquired habits.  In order to be bold you must cultivate it from within yourself.  (click to tweet)

Okay so why be bold? Being bold is about taking action; wanting something and then going out and getting it.  (click to tweet) Some of the greatest people in history have their roots in boldness.  People like Aristotle, Julius Caesar, Steve Jobs, Larry Page and Sergey Brin didn’t achieve greatness by sitting around waiting for it to knock on their front door.  They took a risk and put themselves out there and stood by their ideas no matter what scrutiny.

There are a few concepts that create the framework for boldness…

1. You must free yourself from worry of criticism, have faith in what you have to say and don’t worry about what other people think.

2. You must have a sense of curiosity to go against the status quo and think about new ideas, be innovative.

3. You must be willing to take a risk and put your ideas into practice.

This is probably the most difficult part.  Many people have great ideas but get bogged down by fear and uncertainty.  When you put your ideas out to the public, there is no guarantee you will succeed but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try it out whole-heartedly.   Have faith in yourself understand your own self-expression and stand behind what you believe in.  BE BOLD there is geniuses in that.
